INTRODUCTION

Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty is an internationally acclaimed Sarod player from India. His name breathes an astounding versatility of self-expression as a musician, an educationist, music composer and conductor. Rajeeb belongs to the Maihar gharana of North Indian Classical Music, and trained under his father and lifelong Guru Pandit Rabi Chakraborty. Over the last four decades, Rajeeb has been performing nationally and internationally at major music festivals and concerts. Rajeeb has a doctoral degree in Indian Classical Music on the 'Role of computer in learning & teaching North Indian classical music'. In addition he earned a degree in Western classical music from the Royal College of Music. Rajeeb has also made his mark as a composer in a host of films, Tele films, serials, fusion bands, and stage plays. He is the guest composer of SAMYO - National youth orchestra in UK. Rajeeb is the recipient of the King-Chavez-Parks (KCP) Visiting Professorship Award from the University of Michigan, USA. This is an extremely prestigious program that hosts internationally acclaimed artists from around the globe. 2016 Rajeeb got the Fulbright Nehru Excellency Fellowship from the Fulbright foundation United States. Pioneer High school, the recipient of 8 Grammy awards has joined hands with Rajeeb to form a Global symphonic orchestra with the music of Tagore which was premiered in USA in 2018.

 

THE MUSICIAN
Rajeeb began performing from as early as 9 years and earned his first recognition in the form of the "Junior National Scholarship" followed by the " Senior National Scholarship" in music.

The Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad awarded him gold medals in both "Sangeet Prabhakar" in 1989 and "Sangeet Praveen" in 1991 for his profound understanding of instrumental music and a proficiency in its theoretical aspects.

His talent has been taking him across the globe for more than a decade to Europe, USA and Canada where he has participated in innumerous concerts and major music festivals which include the Bath Festival, Chester Summer Festival, Vienna Festival, and Edinborough Festival to name a few.

 

THE EDUCATIONIST
Along with being a highly acclaimed musician Dr. Chakraborty has built himself a separate identity as a regular academic instructor in premier universities not only in India but also abroad. He has the distinction of using the latest available technology, namely, computers to teach and spread the message of music across the globe. His thesis subject that reads 'The Role of computer in learning and teaching North Indian classical music' in itself reveals his enthusiasm to make Indian classical music more approachable for students, whereby making learning of it more logical and make this form of art globally acceptable not only in its form of beauty, but also art, in its form of theory. 
Dr. Chakraborty's major associations with universities abroad have been with: 
Harvard University, North Carolina State University, Minnesota State University, University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Melan, University of Manchester to name a few.

Apart from being very closely associated with major universities abroad Rajeeb has also been working hand in hand with SPICMACAY the organization that believes in the propagation of Indian Classical Music and Art amongst the youth globally. He was selected as the mainframe artiste of the session 2000/2001 and delivered lecture demonstration programmes at both university and school levels in India.

 

COMPOSER AND CONDUCTOR
Apart from being a regular performing artiste and holding lecture demonstration programmes abroad to his credit we can also include the fact that Dr. Chakraborty has chartered out an impressive career as a composer and a conductor of music and has lent his creativity to a host of films, documentaries, serials, stage plays, music albums, music videos, fusion bands and dance dramas. His association with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and his involvement as a guest composer / conductor for The Leeds Summer 

Festival 1999 talks about his acceptance globally. His "Khudito Pashan" based on Tagore's story was premiered in the US in 1994 and won the first prize at a national convention.
